March SWAT challenge and Scrapfriends - my first layout

A pinch and a punch and an umbrella for the first of a new month!! Yep still raining here!! I do think of so many who are really struggling with all this rain... lets hope we see some sunshine soon..

As the new month dawns, so do all the new challenges...

The sketch this month for Sketches With a Twist looks like this...

there are so many possibilities for this... And the TWIST is to use washi tape on your layout.. now if you do not have any washi I reckon any sort of tape would do... I used masking tape for a challenge once before I had any washi...

and my layout...

I used some gorgeous little photos of my great niece.. she has such a cute little face!! and when you can't choose just one photo... then use several photos!

And don't laugh, even though I am on the DT for SWAT and I totally knew the twist was to use washi, I did my layout and then thought... DANG!! where am I going to put my washi....
Problem solved... around the edges !!!

Little Miss..

I layered the die cuts with foam tape...

I used an older kaiser range, and washi around the edge looks just fine!!

Thanks to so many who did last months sketch for SWAT, your support is really apprecated..

and I see that the challenge for SCRAPFRIENDS first layout is still open I thought I would share my first ever scrap layout..

I began scrapping in January 2006 because I wanted to document the special moments in my youngest daughters life..  I was introduced to scrapbooking by my friend Marlene who also took me to my first scrap shop... yes they even had shops especially for scrapbooking.. mind blowing to me at the time!! The papers I have used were from Big W and I used lots of stickers in those early days.. I probably got the stickers from a dollar shop.. The photos I have used would have been from the first few days of January 2006, I know the one where she is holding the sparkler is from new years eve.. Since then my world of scrapbooking has grown so much, I am still learning, and some how my stash just seems to get bigger with each passing year... hehe!!
I feel so blessed to have taken this path, I have made so many friends and discovered there is more to my life than a tidy house, it is the joy of watching people look at my creations and enjoy them.. that is what will live on.. No one will remember the day I had the house spotless (than doesn't happen these days!!!) but they will remember that day or time that I put on a layout...and hopefully see the love that is on each page..

So my first layout...

It's a new year...

ah these photos are so precious.. my gorgeous girl.. 5 years old here..   That is what scrapbooking is all about..the memories...

Thanks for popping by and I do appreciate all the comments you leave me...

What a tricky sketch and a fab idea to use the circle photos mats like that, perfect for the layout; love the paper too - an oldie but a goodie :) And you shared your first layout, yeah!! Looks like flowers WERE a hit with us both right from the start. I sure have missed popping by your blog and seeing all the wonderful creations. Hope you are not too water logged like us!!!

  17. Both are beautiful layouts Lizzy, your niece is adorable and I love the way your washi edges add contrast and draw you into the page. I love seeing your first ever design, its reminds me of my first layout after attending a Creative Memories party. It's always nice to be able to look back and see how far we have come. I do this often with my cards, although there are times I feel I may be regressing......lol. I hope the rain isn't too bad where you are in regards to flooding etc. I am so over it. This is the forth weekend in a row I am watching road closures and school notice boards to see what's happening around us. Hope you are staying warm and Dry!
