last months sketch challenge for Scrap of Difference was to use this sketch
taken from the color room as inspiration for a layout..
i chose photos of my daughter when she was a bridesmaid and i used an overlay from Kaiser.. i haven't used an overlay like this before. i adhered it to my layout with Dimensional Magic dotted in inconspicuous places. If anyone has used another product then i would be interested in what you did to stick an overlay on a layout.. so my layout....
and a close up of the overlay...
thank you for coming by.. and for your comments.. you give me such a boost... just the other day i subbed 5 layouts to a magazine for their latest themes and before the day was out i received the thanks but no thanks email.. i felt a bit flat after that considering they were also calling for unpublished people.. i thought that maybe one of the 5 i sent would be ok... but no... i was a bit disappointed.. thinking what is wrong with my layouts??? then that afternoon my friend who i sent the card to rang and told me how much she loved the card i sent and how it cheered her up and she just wanted to say thank you.. well that lifted me up.. i know i don't scrap to be published or even to be well known.. i scrap because i enjoy it and it is my time out... i don't do challenges to win, i do them because they are a catalyst for me to begin a layout often because of the criteria or the sketch to follow.. so i write this to say thank you for all the people who come by and leave me some words of encouragement.. and if somehow i can inspire you with what i do, either by using a product or a quote or encouraging you to try a challenge i have done, then i am glad.. and if you have any ideas for something i have done then please let me know.. i am learning something all the time from you all.. thank you again..
So lovely Lizzie, I adore the colours you have used, keep on submitting is what I say thats what I did!
ReplyDeleteAs for the overlays I either staple it or use brads to attach them or use double side tape under photos or embellies, also I machine stitch around the edge..hope this helps!
The layout is gorgeous I am yet to use an overlay on a page. I know exactly how you feel I do the same as you and get thanks but now thanks, but I really think some of them are, who you know and friends of friends who get onto these DT etc. But you have to be positive and a very good friend of mine said to me, that its there loss not to have us. Your work is amazing and I love looking at all that you create.
ReplyDeleteSo keep smiling and just do it for yourself.
OH! WOW! This is truly Divine......

With the Submitting layouts!! We have all rejected @ sum point!!! I think that it's what they are looking for @ that time.....
I really wouldn't take it personally!!!

Such a beautiful layout and your daughter is gorgeous. I too know the feeling of rejection that comes with this hobby but just don't take it personally and in a couple of days you will have forgotten all about that stupid email!

Great post! Keep applying...and keep your chin up! I appreciate especially the candid words. Nice page of your daughter!
ReplyDeleteWhat a heart- felt post. I so admire you for your sincerity.Being rejected and feeling that your work is 'not good enough' is an awful feeling, I know. Just be true to yourself and remind yourself that your work is good, it is creative and it is unique to you.......enjoy yourself creating, do it for the love of it, not the glory. Your page is beautiful, as is your daughter. I love black and teal together and your overlay works perfectly.xx
ReplyDeletethis is just gorgeous and your fussy cutting is amazing wow
ReplyDeleteStunning layout Liz! Don't beat yourself up about not being published. Your work is gorgeous and judging it by others people standards is always going to make you feel disappointed. I think the mags have a really specific aesthetic...Bright, bold, clean and technically spot on. I can certainly appreciate this type of scrapping however the layouts I am most inspired by are the messy, creative, emotion filled, heart felt and ORIGINAL ones! Probably only 10% of the mags cater for that type of scrapping which is a shame...Keep up the beautiful work and remember if you need an ego boost just drop into the blogs and we will all be happy to tell you how fabulous both you and your creations are xox
ReplyDeleteDon't be disheartened Lizzy, your creations are amazing and I'm sure you'll be published soon. Sometimes it takes a while for your work to be accepted, you just have to keep trying. I LOVE your beautiful LO, the colours are gorgeous and your layering is fantastic.. stunning pics of your daughter too!! Have a wonderful week :))
ReplyDeleteGorgeous layout & such beautiful photos. I stitch, staple or glue overlays depending on the design, or add embellishments & glue underneath. With regard to subbing...keep at it! I can certainly relate to what you are saying, but don't take it to heart (easier said than done, I know). I think it's a bit of luck, depending on what they are looking for & magazine arrangement. Doesn't make you any more or less of a scrapper...if that makes sense???
ReplyDeleteI love visiting Lizzy...Your layout is beautiful and its a gorgeous photo of your daughter. I think it wonderful you submitted layouts, I wouldn't have the confidence to do that! Keep trying I'm sure is will happen and don't take it personally...what you do is beautiful, everyone has there own unique style.... that's what is fabulous about this craft!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful layout Lizzy & such beautiful photos of such a beautiful girl. I just want to tell you that you give out so much love in this land of "BLOG" & make sooooo many many people feel good about their work & for that we are all truely grateful. Regards getting published, who is to say that one person sitting behind a desk with a whole lot of power is the King of scrapping. We all know & love your work. Being published is not necessarily the be all to end all!!! Chin up. From one of you scrapping friends in blog land!! Cheers Di xx
